Candle Care

Tunneling:

Candle tunneling is when a candle burns down the center leaving an excess wax ring around the rest of the jar.

Candle Burning

*For your first light, do not trim the wick*

The general rule of thumb for container candle burning is that for every inch in diameter, you’ll want to burn your candle for one full hour to prevent what is known as “tunneling”. You’ll want to wait until your candle’s wax has melted all the way around the glass before blowing the flame out.

Tunneling Correction:

1. Burn your candle for several hours, until the wax has melted evenly around the glass

2. With a knife or spoon, carefully carve the excess wax that remains around the glass to even the surface of the candle

a. The removed wax can be used in a wax warmer so as not to go to waste

3. Wrap foil around the top of the glass, leaving a hole for heat to escape

a. This will melt the excess wax

b. Pour excess wax out to be used in a wax warmer
